Individual Giving

Wits alumni and friends are the University’s most loyal supporters and continue to make a significant contribution to maintaining our vision of building lives, transforming the nation and advancing the African continent.

Below are many ways in which individuals can contribute to our sustained success now and in the future.

Legacy Giving

Legacy Giving

Wits has been shaped today by the lasting impact of bequests both large and small.

There are many reasons for leaving a bequest.

  • A Bequest allows you to plan a future gift that will live on.
  • A Bequest allows you to honor a loved one while showing your support for the University.
  • A Bequest allows you to support your passion or interests.

The Development and Fundraising Office can assist with identifying areas for your bequest and advise you of the exact wording to ensure it is utilized in line with your wishes. Should you wish to discuss Bequests, please contact us.

Wits Annual Fund

The Wits Annual Fund is a discretionary endowment fund, established to ensure that current and future generations of Witsies will have access to the same excellence in infrastructure, teaching, research and accessibility that past Witsies have enjoyed. In response to the challenge of access to university and the plight of students in need, the Forum of former presidents of the Wits SRC and Black Students’ Society launched the Wits chapter of the South African Student Solidarity Foundation for Education (SASSFE) on Wednesday 6 April 2016.

SASSFE is an initiative to mobilise financial support for university students. It plans to set up chapters at as many other tertiary education institutions as possible. Learn more about SASSFE and donate now.

Class Gifts

Reunion years are an opportunity for members of a graduated class to make a collective gift over and above regular monthly or annual gifts.

The Wits Medical School class of 1966 reunited in Johannesburg for their 50th anniversary. The reunion took place from 1 - 3 February 2016 and combined a fundraising dinner, talks and tours. To date this class has raised over R500 000 for the Fund. To find out more about making a class gift, please contact us.

Capital Giving

Capital gifts are gifts that allow alumni and friends to direct their contributions toward specific needs of the University that matches their personal interests. These gifts include endowments, establishment of chairs, revamping of campus facilities, scholarships, research and academic programs. To find out more about capital gifts, please contact us.
