D-Lab: Undergraduate Computing Lab
The D-Lab is a computing facility for third, fourth year and postgraduate Electrical and Information Engineering students. Managed by the School, it includes:
- a 140-seater main laboratory, with approximately half the number of seats having dedicated laptop support
- an overflow laboratory which extends from the main laboratory
The spacious main venue is used for undergraduate instruction (lab sessions and teaching), and is equipped with a high quality sound system, data-projectors, automated drop-down screens, and a podium with a built-in touch screen. Both wired and wireless connectivity is available throughout the lab. A high capacity network infrastructure offers 1 Gb access, and a 10 Gb backbone. All laboratory machines support dual booting into either Windows or Linux. Specialised engineering software packages required by students are available, such as MatLab, Multisim and SuperNec.
The overflow laboratory will allow for adjustable seating arrangements to support both formal lecturing to small classes, and cluster seating for internet browsing and general computer use.
