Tuberculosis (TB) continues to present a clear and present danger to the health of all South Africans, killing more people locally than any other bacterial infectious disease. The problem is worsened by the fact that over half the population in our country carry TB bacteria in an asymptomatic state, suggesting that South Africa will continue to battle with an overwhelming current and future TB problem. This urgent public health care crisis requires the development of new drugs, diagnostics and biomarkers that are tailored towards strengthening the local health care system and improving the lives of people living with this dreaded disease.Add event to calendar
