Perspectives on Identifying High Potential Candidates for Higher Education: Transformation or Elitism? 5-7 October 2011
The aim of the conference is to explore perspectives on identifying high potential candidates in Higher Education. Within the Higher Education sector graduate output has become a priority, as it has failed to match the developing needs of South Africa. This is reflected in the shortage of high level skills within the sphere of academia and the workplace.
This conference will therefore address the following objectives:
Benchmark best local practices with regards to identification, retention and throughput trends of high potential students, especially from marginalised communities.
Focus on the conditions that must be created within higher
Education to meet the country’s growing need for appropriate number and mix of graduates from a diverse range of disciplines.
Disseminate research on experience gained from interventions designed to address the retention and throughput of high potential students.
Ethical deliberations on the concept of high potential
