The Centre for Health Science Education (CHSE) was established in 2003, as part of a global trend of innovation in health professions education, to implement the Faculty of Health Sciences’ initiative to admit graduates at the third year level of study of the traditional medical programme. |
|
| Since then the Centre has expanded its infrastructure and resources and now provides the Faculty with a much wider service in support, not only of the Graduate Entry Medical Programme (GEMP), but also in the fields of academic development in teaching and learning and research. | ![]() |
| CHSE is made up of a number of sub-units which contribute to health science education – these include information technology, a graphics unit, the education development office, community-based education, a clinical skills unit and programme administration. | ![]() |

Satellite centres are also maintained at other bases in the province - Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Helen Joseph Hospital and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital. | ![]() |
