Bachelor of Health Science with Honours in Biokinetics

Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor?s degree in Exercise Science or equivalent.
  • Note that the Faculty of Health Sciences rules apply for admission and an interview may be called for before acceptance

The Course Content

  • Research methodology and a research project
  • Exercise prescription for special populations
  • Orthopaedic conditions and rehabilitation
  • Rehabilitation for chronic diseases and disabilities
  • Health promotion and wellness
  • Professional internship and practice management

Duration of degree:

  • One year full time study which includes the first of two years of internship

Registration with HPCSA:

  • This is compulsory during your year of full time study and thereafter

Application:

  • Students must apply before the 30th September
  • The application should be accompanied by:
    - A letter of motivation for wanting to read for the degree
    - An updated CV showing sports involvement, community service and two letters of recommendation
    - Certified copies of undergraduate examination results
  • Interviews will take place during the month of September

  • Corporate sector - Several large companies employ biokineticists to improve quality of life of employees
  • South African Defence Force - rehabilitation programmes are provided for service persons
  • Working in Rehabilitation Units in a multidisciplinary setting
  • Sport Institutions employ biokineticists to assist athletes with evaluation, exercise prescription and rehabilitation
  • Universities employ biokineticists to train students in the field and to initiate research projects
  • Private Practice - The biokineticists offer specialised health and sport programmes to the public sector.
