What is an alumni card?

What are the benefits of having an alumni card?

You will be able to enter all campus libraries for research and reference purposes. If you require the use of sports facilities, you have to go directly to the Sports Administration office in Sturrock Park with a valid alumni card, where you will be issued with a sticker on payment of the applicable fee. 

Who qualifies for an alumni card?

Anyone who has obtained a degree qualification from Wits. 

How much does it cost?

A new card costs R150 for 12 months and annual renewal of the card costs R100.

Does the alumni card give you vehicle and parking access?

Vehicle access for alumni card holders is restricted to after-hours unless you have a Parking Disc. You are welcome to purchase a Parking Disc at the Parking Office which would then allow your alumni card to be activated to give you access to the campus at any time to park in the designated areas. Pedestrian turnstile access will continue as usual to allow access to Alumni Card holders at any time.

Restricted hours, where Alumni Card boom gate access is only available to alumni who have a Parking Disc, is from 5am – 3:30pm during student term time Monday – Friday.

Alumni Cards issued without a Parking Disc will still have swipe entry and exit at the boom gates at any time outside of the above mentioned restricted period. There would therefore be unrestricted Alumni Card access during office hours if it is during student holidays and at any time on weekends and public and religious holidays.

You are of course still able to get access to the campus on the same basis as a member of the public if it is as a visitor on official business and after registering at the entrance gate as a visitor.

This policy does not affect access to campus libraries. Library access remains unchanged and Alumni Cards will continue to give you library access during regular library hours.

• The parking decal entitles you to park on West Campus ONLY and only at the following locations
  • in the designated area outside Alumni House in the Wits Club complex, or
  • the area around the Enoch Sontonga Road entrance (opposite Flower Hall),
  • any student parking on West Campus.
• You may NOT park in the Visitors Parking areas or spaces allocated for Day Permit holders.
• Alumni parking decals may NOT be used by current students or staff.
• The parking decals must be affixed to the windscreen of your vehicle.

If you park ANYWHERE other than the areas described above, you are liable to be fined . 
IMPORTANT NOTICE : You may not lend your card to anyone else to use. Your card will be confiscated and cancelled if used by another person and it will not be renewed. Please help us keep our campus safe.

Can I take books out of the library?

 If you want to borrow books from the library there is an additional borrower fee.

How can I obtain an alumni card?

You need to personally come into our office at Alumni House, Wits Club Complex, bottom of West Campus with proof of identification. We ll issue the card immediately. Please note that the card requires 48 hours for activation.
The Alumni Office is open from 8:00 to 16:00 (including lunchtimes), Monday - Friday for alumni cards.
