Admission Requirements and Application Closing Dates

Application Forms for postgraduate studies should be submitted to the Postgraduate Admissions at the Student Enrolment Centre

Bachelor of Science with Honours  (SH0000) 

Admission Criteria:              

  • A Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent
  • Applicants are required to indicate the Honours field of study on the application form.  Applicants must ensure that s/he passed the relevant major course at this University or any other university whose programme has been approved by Senate.
  • A person may not normally be admitted as a candidate for Honours in a subject unless s/he has attained at least 60% average in the final undergraduate course.
  • All applications for admission to the Bachelor of Science with Honours are assessed on an individual basis.
  • The number of students admitted to the Bachelor of Science with Honours is limited. Preference is given to students who achieve excellent academic results.  

Closing Date for Applications for January 2013: 30 September 2012

 MSc by Coursework and Research Report (SMC000) 

Admission Criteria:

  • A Bachelor of Science with Honours of this or another university
  • A graduate of this or another university who holds a degree in another faculty whose curriculum has ordinarily extended over not less than four academic years of full-time study. 

Closing Date for Applications for January 2013: 30 October 2012  

MSc by Dissertation (SMR000)

Admission Criteria:

  • A Bachelor of Science with Honours of this or another university
  • A graduate of this or another university who holds a degree in another faculty whose curriculum has ordinarily extended over not less than four academic years of full-time study. 
  • A supervisor from the Faculty of Science must be identified and approached prior to application 

 

Doctor of Philosophy (SD0000)

Admission Criteria:

  • A Master of Science of this or another university;
  • A graduate of this or another university who holds a degree in another faculty whose curriculum has ordinarily extended over not less than four academic years of full-time study
  • A supervisor from the Faculty of Science must be identified and approached prior to application
