Project Title
Interpretation of 3D Vibroseis data from the Carletonville goldfield, Witwatersrand Basin.
The aims of my MSc project include:-
-
Identifying significant stratigraphic horizons in the Vibroseis dataset, such as unconformities at the base of Transvaal Sequence and the Ventersdorp Supergroup, the top and base of Booysen’s shale, the major unconformity at the base of the Witwatersrand Supergroup, etc., and correlating this with drill core data to constrain the characteristic of seismic data.
-
Indentifying fault planes in seismic sections, which should provide a model of fault surfaces where the throw is greater than 25m.
-
Attribute analysis of the seismic reflectors (changes in dip, azimuth and amplitude) for each horizon. This should assist identification of minor faults and could identify areas of varying structural complexity.
-
Other analyses that WITS geophysicists, in consultation with GOLDFIELDS MINING personnel, feel appropriate.
-
Model validation through comparison to mine plans and borehole data.
