Research

The School of Geography, Archaeology and Environmental Studies is one of the most productive research units at Wits. Staff in the School contribute regularly to local and international journals and are active members of the editorial boards of many prestigious journals in the fields of Geography, Archaeology and the broad area of environmental science.

The School hosts several formally constituted research groups including ACACIA (Professor Lyn Wadley), the Climatology Research Group (Dr Stuart Piketh), and the Rock Art Research Institute (Dr Benjamin Smith).

In addition to these formal research units, individual members of the school have their own research programmes and projects. Further information on these can be found in the individual entries of the school’s staff web page (Academic staff). The school is also proud to have a long list of well-known and very active honorary research associates (honorary research associates ).
