Undergraduate Studies in Science

The Faculty of Science at Johannesburg’s University of the Witwatersrand proudly offers cutting-edge undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to students across diverse subject areas. Programmes are designed to give Wits students the techniques to pursue research at the highest levels in experimental, theoretical, computational and applied sciences.

Applications are processed centrally at the Student Enrolment Centre and the Faculty is located on Wits’ East Campus, on the first floor of Gate House.

The Faculty is known for providing exciting opportunities for innovative research, thanks to collaboration between schools and a variety of multi-disciplinary research centres including the Centre of Excellence in Strong Materials, the Rock Art Research Institute, the University’s Institute for the Study of the Environment and the Climatology Research Group. 

Science graduates of the University of the Witwatersrand are able to enter a variety of industries and sectors in South Africa and overseas, including mathematical statistics, actuarial science, mathematical sciences, physics, nuclear sciences, and many others.

It is strongly recommended that you choose two majors.
