FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TOWARDS THE PUBLICATION OF A BOOK MANUSCRIPT
Applications The University is making available a grant for the publication of scholarly works, which would not normally be considered financially viable for publication in book form. Applications are invited from members of staff and students who have a manuscript which they consider to be complete and are willing to submit for consideration by Wits University Press (WUP).
A sum of up to R50,000, which will be paid to WUP to subside publication costs if necessary, is available. The manuscript should be book-length and may be on any research topic which would be likely to reflect well on the University and the author(s).
Method of application A copy of the completed manuscript should be submitted in printed and electronic form to the Research Office at burnsi@research.wits.ac.za not later than 31 July 2006. A one/two page summary of the manuscript covering the contents and target readership should accompany the submission, in printed and electronic form. The author(s) is/are encouraged to suggest potential reviewers, or to submit any reviews or recommendations already obtained. The author(s) is/are asked to certify that (a) the manuscript will not be submitted to any other publisher before 31 October 2006 or (b) that he/she/they will inform the Research Office immediately in the event that any other publisher undertakes to publish the work.
Timeframe and other matters The University will use its best endeavours to communicate the results to all applicants no later than 31 October 2006. One or possibly two awards will be made in 2006. The University expects no share in any royalties arising from the publication, but the University?s financial support will be acknowledged in the publication.
