Two postdoctoral positions are available in the Microscopy and Microanalysis Unit.
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Collaborative research;
- Offer technical training;
- Consultancy within the microscopy and microanalysis unit;
- Teaching and assisting microscopy users;
Requirements:
- PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Life and Health Sciences, Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years experience in Electron Microscopy or related techniques;
- Computer literacy and use of electronic devices;
- Willing to spend 2-3 months abroad to learn new instrumentation techniques;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills essential;
- Ability to work in a team and individually;
- Teaching and technical skills potential;
- Ability to learn and master new techniques or skills e.g. new sample preparation techniques, microscopes and operational software that are introduced over time;
- Good understanding of the working principles of vacuum systems, computers and their software, imaging techniques and microscopy (AFM, Optical, SEM) and analysis protocols;
- The ability to present this in informal and semi-formal presentations as well as in one-to-one situations to a wide variety of people ranging from primary school pupils to senior academic staff;
- The ability to teach and operate such equipment for users as well as sort out their problems on the equipment relating to both their operation of the equipment and their sample preparation;
- The ability to reliably use their own expert judgment.
