Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Migration) 2013/2014

A post-doctoral research fellowship is available for an exciting research project on migration, socio-economic status and health. We require a doctoral graduate in one of the following disciplines: Economics, Demography or Public health; for two years, with renewal after one year based on performance and progress.

Keywords:

Migration, mortality, socio-economic status, rural, Mpumalanga, Agincourt Health and socio-Demographic Surveillance System, longitudinal statistical methods, policy implications, attrition bias.

Minimum requirements:

  1. PhD obtained within the last 5 years
  2. Experience with longitudinal statistical methods
  3. Knowledge of advanced demographic techniques
  4. A record of research on internal migration

Additional requirements:

Experience with the following would be advantageous:

  1. Research on the determinants and/ or consequences of migration

Duties and Expectations:

  1. Undertake focused and high quality research;
  2. Undertake other activities related to the academic programme and the professional development of the host individual; including,
    1. Triangulation of health and demographic surveillance system (HDSS) with relevant national datasets
    2. Comparison of migration and mortality findings in different health and demographic surveillance systems of the INDEPTH Network
