We are moving to a decentralizing data capturing system in respect of 2011 publications. This system may be accessed at http://wits.rims.ac.za/
Submission forms for creative outputs: Presentations Publications
CLOSING DATES
The system opened on 1 November 2011 and will remain open until 31 March 2012 for the capture of 2011 publications. The process is a continuous one. Publications should be captured as and when they appear in print and the hard copies submitted to the Research Office. Please do not leave data capture to the last minute.

- RESEARCH INCENTIVE SCHEME
University publications, i.e. books, chapters in books, published conference proceedings, articles in refereed journals which appear on the Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) master list, or on the International Bibliography of Social Sciences (IBSS) list, or on the Department of Education (DE) list of accredited South African journals, are eligible for a grant from the research incentive scheme. The relevant websites are as above.
- PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS
The conditions for disbursement of research incentive scheme funds, as approved by Senate and Council, are set out below: The Research Office will pay to each Faculty in January a portion of the URC budget. The size of this portion is based, inter alia, on the number of research units produced by the Faculty, on average, per annum, over a preceding three year period. The Faculty will then disburse the funds at the discretion of the Faculty Research Committee. o Research incentive funds may only be used for research/ related or academic activities or for administrative activities directly related to such activities o Funds may not be used to subvent or supplement staff salaries. o Funds may be used for additional bursaries, or to top-up post-doctoral fellowships and student scholarships, providing that the topping-up is not beyond any University-determined limit. o Funds may not be used for any private purpose.
- ACCOUNTABILITY
Recipients of research incentive funds are accountable for use of the moneys earned from the research incentive scheme. The conditions for accountability are set out below: o The revenue earned will be deposited in University account; recipients may only spend money from that account and may not, for example, deposit it in a private bank account o The recipient will be responsible to The Head of School or Director/Leader of a research entity in the first instance. They are in turn responsible to the Dean.
- REPRINTS
At a meeting of the University Research Committee held in December 1988, it was agreed that reprint/publication costs were part of the expenses of a research project and should be taken out of the associated running expenses. No additional funds would thus be granted to cover such costs.
- PAGE COSTS
Costs of publishing in journals which require authors to pay page costs should be met from running expenses and/or from Research Incentive Scheme funds. Such costs are not normally covered by a central fund.
