
Certificate Course: Film and Television Production ManagementObjectives of the Course:The course aims to equip participants with an understanding of the Film and Television Production process with a view to applying the knowledge to a position in the administrative element of the Film and Television Industry. It will cover the organizational structure of a typical production, the administrative aspects of Film and Television production including script breakdown and scheduling, budgeting and financial control, hiring of equipment and facilities as well as the recruiting and contracting of crew and minor cast. Outcomes:The course will enable the participant to access a career in the Film and Television Industry. The learner will be able to: Describe and outline the organisational structure of a Production. FeesR 6500.00 (including lecture notes) Structure and Timetable:The course comprises a series of lectures (each of approximately 4 hours) to be held twice a week on the East Campus of Wits University in the WSOA: Division of Film and Television. The course will run for approximately 7 weeks. Lectures to be held on a Tuesday (17h30 - 21h00) and Thursday (9h00 - 13h00). Participants will receive a certificate of competence if the examination is written and passed. The University regards this as NQF level 5Course Content:Introduction to the Film and Television Production Process in which the student will examine the Film and Television production organization and structure and its many and various members roles. This will be followed by a close analysis of the Script Breakdown and its applications. The various processes of raising the Finances and their Control will then be considered as will the acquisition and management of Personnel and Facilities with the relevant Deals and Contracts that will need to be arranged to produce a successful Film or Television Production. Certificate Course: Video Production (E.N.G. (Electronic News Gathering) Production)Objectives of the Course:The objective of the course is to enable the participant to produce simple audio visual productions. This will include the acquisition of basic skills in video camera operation, sound recording and video editing as well as production administration. In so doing the participant will acquire practical knowledge of single camera production for television. Outcomes:The course enables the participants to: Describe the principles of audio visual productions. Fees:R 8500.00 (including lecture notes) Structure and Timetable:The course comprises a series of approximately 15 lectures (each of approximately 4 hours) held on the East Campus of Wits University in the WSOA: Division of Film and Television. Lectures are usually held on a Wednesday (17h30 - 20h30) and Saturday (9h00 - 13h00). Participants will receive a certificate of competence if the examination is written and passed. The University regards this as NQF level 5 Course Content:An introduction to, Film and Television Production, all practical elements of Video camera work and digital non linear editing operation. The theory is extensively extended by practical demonstration and guided application in the use of the equipment. The participants then produce original material in groups and individually. This is followed by the assembly of the material into useful narratives. The support elements of production administration and control are also covered.
