UNIVERSITY OF THE WITWATERSRAND, JOHANNESBURG

Undergraduate Studies

After long experience, we believe that visual and performing arts students need to have:

  • a specialised professional training (represented by a primary professional major),
  • a general critical and intellectual training,
  • and a second area of professional expertise to provide the interdisciplinary flexibility needed for today s workplace.

Undergraduate course information is organised into each of the major departments: Digital Arts, Drama, Fine Arts, History of Art, Music, and Film and Television. Please remember, though, that in reality you have a very wide range of choice, and it is even possible to change the degree you are registered for when you are well into your programme of study.

Note: not all courses listed here will necessarily be offered in any one year. Furthermore, entry to individual courses may be determined by prerequisites, and timetable clashes may mean that you have to narrow your range of choices. This information is to help you plan your career. For the rules governing student enrollment and registration, see the Faculty of Humanities Rules and Syllabuses book.
