Programme Outline and Accreditation
The Certificate consists of three courses:
MODULE 1:Computers in Schools The use of computers in schools for pedagogic, organizational and administrative purposes. ICT and curriculum. Planning, management and financing of ICTs in schools.
MODULE 2:eLearning Pedagogy and Assessment Macro- and micro-level instructional leadership with respect to ICT integration. The theory and practice of teaching using digital technologies. Investigation of the value that digital technologies add to learning in the classroom and in distance education modalities. The possibilities and limitations of online assessment systems.
MODULE 3: eLearning Policy and Practice The role of policy makers in the adoption of ICTs in education. Educational leadership in an information society. In depth study of one or more local, extant ICT innovation projects in education, particularly with regard to implementation issues.
Methodology and Duration The certificate consists of a combination of a one week residential workshop, and resource based learning on an eLearning platform, to enable learning at a distance. This will allow participants to continue to work and apply their learning in practice on the job. It is a six month programme.

Accreditation and Certification The Certificate is accredited by the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, as a postgraduate certificate of competence. Successful completion of the Certificate will exempt participants from two of the four courses required to obtain the Advanced Certificate in eLearning offered by the Wits School of Education. It will also serves as a professional entry qualification for the Bachelor of Education programme in eLearning. Entry into these programmes is subject to the entry requirements of the University.
