Individuals who have already completed a BA, BA Dramatic Arts, BA Fine Arts, BCom, BMus or BSc and who have appropriate teaching subjects (See Table 1) in their degree, can qualify as high school teachers by studying a one year full-time PGCE.
To qualify all students must complete the following courses:
- Theory of Education
- One FET subject methodology major (selected from a list of approved University major subjects See Table 1)
- Two GET subject methodologies (selected from the list of university subjects (sub-majors) - See Table 2)
- Teaching Experience in all subject methodologies
- Endorsement courses in
- Computer Literacy - Language Proficiency
Entry into the FET subject methodology course requires students to be in possession of a major in an approved university subject related to teaching subjects (See Table 1 below). One of the two GET subject methodology courses must be related to the candidate's FET teaching subject. The choice of the second GET teaching subject is dependent on the candidate having studied sub-major courses related to that teaching subject (See Table 2).
Table 1: Approved University subjects (for teaching subjects and their related GET subject methodologies)
N.B. Courses marked with an asterisk (*) will only be offered subject to pre-requisite conditions being met, and with the approval from the Head of the School of Education.
