A gym designed for those who have cardiac problems, but which also welcomes other exercisers!
In 1982 the Johannesburg Council opened the Johannesburg Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre, which operated for many years in the Br mfontein Civic Centre, and then later at the Johannesburg Stadium.
In June 2003 it moved to the Wits Education Campus where it is now a part of the exciting new Wits Sports Initiative.
The Wits Cardiogym is soon to be operated as a Joint Venture between Wits, the Johannesburg Council and the members (Superhearts).
The centre has a multi-disciplinary team, including a sports physician, physiotherapist and rehabilitation nurses, with added input from the departments of nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and sports science.
The Metro Cardiogym has helped people with cardiac problems regain their strength and confidence and return to a normal productive life.
