Seeking Assistance with Your Stats: a Guide

The Faculty Research office provides statistical support by offering statistics consultations in the Postgraduate Hub at the Medical School campus in Parktown and at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.

The statistics consultants will provide guidance and offer advice regarding data entry, cleaning and coding, study methodology and data analysis using statistical packages such as STATA, STATISTICA and EPI INFO.

Places to seek a consultation:

1. Postgraduate Hub

No need for advance bookings. Consultants will be available at the following times:

Tuesdays     (13:00-17:00)
Wednesdays (13:00-17:00)
Thursdays    (13:00-17:00)

Students are encouraged to bring their own data or protocol with them.

The consultations in the Postgraduate Hub are conducted by student tutors who are either studying for an MSc or a PhD in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

For further assistance after consultation in the Postgraduate Hub, the tutors will refer you for one-on-one sessions with a senior biostatistician by asking you either: to complete a consultation booking form in the Postgraduate Hub (you can give this form to the tutor on duty or take it to office 10R08) OR to email your request for assistance to stats.health@wits.ac.za.

(Please note that you can only be referred to a senior biostatistician once you have seen a consultant in the PG Hub)
