Health Sciences Research Day & Postgraduate Expo 2012

Every two years, the Faculty hosts a Research Day and Postgraduate Expo. The 2010 event was the most successful thus far, with almost 1000 delegates in attendance. Around 300 abstracts were submitted, and it was a tough task to select the final 91 oral and 213 poster presentations.

The 2010 Postgraduate Expo saw contributions from the South African Medical Research Council, the National Research Foundation, pharmaceutical and medical companies, the Faculty of Health Sciences Postgraduate and Research Offices, the Wits Health Sciences Library, the University’s International Office, and the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. By hosting stands, Schools, Departments and Research Entities gave existing and prospective postgraduate students and Postdocs the chance to see what research programmes/projects were available.

Although only Health Sciences staff and postgraduate students are eligible to present, members of the University community are welcome to attend, as well as members of the public.

There are substantial travel awards and cash prizes for the best oral presentation and best poster in each theme, and we encourage all staff and postgraduate students to submit an abstract.
