Research activities soared in June with a number of scientific writing and statistics courses being offered by our own dedicated Faculty staff, including Emeritus Professor Duncan Mitchell. In addition, Professors Roy Zent and Ambra Pozzi of Vanderbilt Medical School provided further insight into grant writing and scientific writing in a number of successful courses and workshops offered to Faculty staff and postgraduate students. This was followed by a visit by a delegation from Vanderbilt under the leadership of Professor Bonnie Miller, the Senior Associate Dean. The group was shown a palette of activities in both research and training and are keen to collaborate with the Faculty.
Wits’ FHS hit the jackpot this month with not one, but two publications authored by Wits researchers in the same edition of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine. This emphasises the fact that our Faculty’s researchers are working on highly relevant research of the highest impact. Congratulations to all of the Wits authors on these two publications, led on the one paper by Professor Shabir Madhi and on the other by Dr Neil Martinson.
