While the leaves are slowly turning autumnal shades of brown, red and gold, planning in the Faculty Research Office has become frenetic as research activities roll out.
Research methods courses are currently on offer, to be followed by writing skills and statistics. June diaries will be filled by a writing skills workshop offered by alumnus Professor Roy Zent and Professor Ambra Pozzi of Vanderbilt University and a grant writing workshop on major grants by Professor Roy Zent.
May highlights include our own Postgraduate event on 19th May (see page 9) and the 5th in the Prestigious Research Lecture series on 25th May. Professors Charles Feldman and Shabir Madhi make their debut as lecturers in this series.
In celebration of our “emerging” researchers, this issue of the newsletter focuses on two members of staff: Dr Yahya Choonara and Dr Alisha Wade – both treasures in the Faculty.
Congratulations to all those who received awards at the Faculty Prize Giving in March: Faculty Research Prize winner for 2010 - Dr Alexio Capovilla, most Prestigious PhD Award - Dr Elizabeth Kimani and most Prestigious MSc Award - Mr David Sacks. Well done also to the many others who have won prizes and awards at recent Congresses (see pages 11-13) and to those who have secured significant research funding for the year ahead.
We’re off to a wonderful start!!
