Ansel Krut (born 1959)

No title, 1983

Oil on canvas (triptych)

Ansel Krut was born in Cape Town and spent some time as a medical student before completing a BA (FA) at Wits in 1982. He then went to the Citè Internationale des Arts, Paris, in 1982-83, and to the Royal College of Art in London where he received an MA (Painting) in 1986. He won the Prix de Rome and spent several years furthering his art in Rome and elsewhere in Italy. After an extended working visit to the USA, he has lived in London since 1992.

Krut has exhibited extensively internationally. He is a lecturer in the Painting Department at the Royal College of Art, London and an artist-lecturer at the National Gallery, London.

This figurative work is an emotive and expressive painting in which the artist physically explores the medium of paint to explode both image and narrative.
