Within five years of its establishment the NACoE should be recognized and supported by all role-players (locally and internationally) as a valuable and integral part of South Africa?s aerospace industry.
MISSION
The NACoE conducts leading edge, commercially significant technology research and development for the aerospace industry in South Africa that would not have otherwise happened, and enhances the competitiveness and sustainability of the industry.
Key outputs of the NACoE are
new or more competitive technologies/products,
new knowledge,
highly skilled human resources,
technology transfer.
Outputs are achieved in accordance with a long-term development strategy as a collaborative, multi-disciplinary effort between government, industry, academia and research institutions.
Self-sustainability in the long term is achieved through consistently adding value to all stakeholders during the formation years and beyond.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the NACoE over the period 2006-2010 are:
To establish and maintain the core NACoE functionality at the University of the Witwatersrand, in collaboration with other leading Higher Education Institutions, industry and other stakeholders
To conduct leading edge commercially significant technology research projects in the field of aerospace in a partnership model
To produce highly skilled human resources in the field of aerospace in line with the requirements and expectations of the South African aerospace industry
To conduct technology transfer activities
To establish a national knowledge repository in the field of aerospace
The objectives will be attained through two primary mechanisms
The establishment and operation of a permanent NACoE functionality at WITS for a minimum period of 5 years.
The execution of collaborative projects under the auspices of the NACoE
