Fees Structure

General

For full details and exceptions on fees please consult the fees booklet of the University. All fees published are calculated on the assumption that the participant on the course will not repeat a course, and till take all courses within the Graduate School. Fees published will be affected if a student:

1. Repeats a course
2. Chooses to do elective courses outside the Graduate School
3. Deregisters from the degree for a period of time, and then resumes studying

The university reserves the right to adjust, change or remove courses in any particular year.

Payment Information

Fees are payable by 31 March. Occasional and international students must refer to the International Office (see below) for more information. Additional fees (eg notes and computer lab fees) are payable as and when levied.

All students are required to pay R6000.00 on registration.

All students who are in University residence are required to pay 20% of the residence fee in advance, unless they are able to provide evidence of a bursary or scholarship wich covers residence fees and which is acceptable to the University fees office.

All queries regarding the payment of fees should be made directly with the University Fees Office on 27 11 717 1541/2/3/4.

International Students

For full details and exceptions on fees for international students, consult the fees booklet of the university or click on www.wits.ac.za and click on "Study at Wits" and then "international office".

An international student is defined as a student who is neither a South African national nor a permanent resident of South Africa as the time of registration. International students cannot register at the university unless their fees are paid in full; including tuition fees, South Africa medical cover and on-campus accommodation. Additionally, international postgraduate students from outside SADC must pay a non-refundable, annual International Postgraduate Registration Fee.

Students from the SADC member countries and Rwanda pay a different International Registration Fee (IRF) and local academic fees, as opposed to other international students, but like other international students, all other conditions remain the same; all fees and South African medical cover are paid in full before registration can occur. The SADC member countries are Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique,
