UNIVERSITY OF THE WITWATERSRAND, JOHANNESBURG

Application Information

The contents of these pages applies to the application processes for all  Degrees offered at P&DM

Apply OnlineProgress of your Application

Receipt of your application will be acknowledged.  All applicaations first are captured by the University's Student Enrolment Centre (SENC) .  Once your application is complete it will be forwarded to P&DM for review and a decision.  It is important to note that if your application is incomplete, it will not be forwarded to the School.  Your application will not be reviewed, and it will wait until you have provided all of the required information.

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed by the admissions panel under any circumstances.

A member of the Admissions Panel will screen complete applications. At monthly intervals after the closing date for admissions to the programme, all completed applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Chairperson and selections made. You may be requested to attend an interview. Applications received by the closing date, which include all relevant documentation, will be favoured in the selection process.

Late applications will only be reviewed if places remain after applicants who met the closing date have been accommodated.

You will be advised if you have been accepted or not accepted, or if your name has been placed on a waiting list.

Decisions regarding applications for programmes beginning in January will be finalised by late November, unless the applicant is awaiting his/her final year results for a bachelor's degree. In this case, the final decision will be made in late December when the Faculty Office receives the results.

If you decide to withdraw your application, or if you have been offered a place you do not wish to accept, please inform the Faculty Office in writing. It is also important to inform the Faculty Office (also in writing) of any change of address or telephone number.

Applicants should note that the school, when reviewing applications, also takes into account the manner and efficiency of the application process. Applicants are urged to make sure that their application forms are complete, as per the checklist.

Ongoing enquiries regarding your application

Once your application form has been returned to P&DM, the Marketing Department of P&DM no longer handles it, and the Faculty Office takes over. All further inquiries must be handled by phone using 27(11) 717-3923.

Application Procedures

Application form

Please ensure that all information is correct, that you have included everything required on the checklist (as specified on the last page of the application form), and that you have signed the form. To be considered by the Admissions Committee, your application form and other required documentation (including test results and transcripts) must reach the school no later than the closing date for applications. Late applications will be considered only if places are available, if the reason for the delay is unavoidable or if the required documentation is received soon after the late application has been submitted.

Academic Transcript

Information is given in the "General Information" booklet, which is available from CLM Faculty Office. Unfortunately this booklet is not available on the Web. Please, however note:

  • Wits undergraduates do not need to submit a transcript.
  • Graduates from other universities must submit an original or certified copy. The transcript must include a complete list of all subjects taken for a degree, including failed courses. A degree certificate is NOT a transcript.
  • Graduates from certain universities may not be able to supply a full transcript. An applicant in this position should obtain a "Confirmation of class of degree certificate" (a green form) from the Faculty Office and forward it to the university concerned, requesting the Registrar of the other institution to complete the form and to return it to the Student Enrolment Centre.
SENC must receive all the above documentation before the closing date for applications.
