The School of Law is proud to introduce the Postgraduate Diploma in Law programme with effect from 2012. Our curricula have been revamped to meet the needs of students seeking high quality postgraduate qualifications in law.  The wide range of subjects taught by acknowledged experts allows students to build on their basic legal qualifications and develop themselves as world-class specialists in order to service clients in an increasingly complex business and regulatory environment.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Law programme is aimed at practitioners and law graduates of outstanding caliber, who wish to acquire a high quality specialised or general postgraduate qualification through coursework.  The course content is the same as the coursework component of the LLM by Coursework and Research Report programme, but without having to complete the research component.

Attendance Requirements

The Postgraduate Diploma in Law programme requires students to attend lectures at the School of Law. Lectures are run once a week per course in the evenings during Wits university terms, making them ideal for working legal professionals.  Students must attend at least 75% of the lectures.

Structure of Programmes

The Postgraduate Diploma in Law is structured as a one year (full-time) or a two year (part-time) programme.  Students may choose either a general or specialised field.  Note that specilaist fields will not reflect on the degree certificate but will be reflected on the student's academic transcript.

The programme comprises four courses.  The combination of courses depends on the field chosen by the student, as set out below.
