
Candidate Attorney: Wits Law Clinic & Centre for Applied Legal Studies
The Wits Law Clinic and the Centre for Applied Legal Studies (CALS) currently have a vacancy for a candidate attorney who will serve one year of their articles at CALS and the other year at the Wits Law Clinic. The incumbent should ideally be in a position to start immediately.
The Wits Law Clinic provides access to justice to poor and marginalised communities in greater Johannesburg in the form of legal assistance and representation to clients on a range of legal problems such as divorces and custody disputes, labour matters, criminal matters, contractual claims, consumer-related matters, delictual claims, evictions, housing and land-related matters. CALS is a leading human rights centre which undertakes research, strategic litigation, and public interest advocacy. CALS currently runs five Programmes namely Basic Services, Education, Environment, Gender and Rule of Law. The Centre for Applied Legal Studies (CALS) is a leading human rights centre based in the Wits Law School which undertakes research, strategic litigation, and public interest advocacy. CALS currently runs five Programmes namely Basic Services, Education, Environment, Gender and Rule of Law. Research and Teaching Associates (RTA’S)
The Wits Law School (WLS) inaugurated a new programme in January 2011. The Research and Teaching Associates (RTA) Programme caters for recent law graduates seeking full-time, short-term academic employment bridging among and between other posts and periods of post-graduate study. There is scope to combine appointment within the Programme with postgraduate study at the WLS. The Programme is housed in the DJ Du Plessis Centre on West Campus and forms part of the staff complement of WLS, including participation in the intellectual life of the School (which includes the Centre for Applied Legal Studies (CALS), also housed in the DJ Du Plessis Centre).
